Our baby hamsters are 3 weeks old today, and they are still nursing from the mother. Since about 2 night ago we have noticed that some of them are figting. They are rolling and squeaking so I do not know if they are playing or not. They do eat and drink on there own. but like I said they are still nursing. Should we remove the babies? Please give me all the advise you can.

I always thought it was thefather you had to remove not the mother.

Hi, my hamster cage has a bit of rust because it’s made of metal bars, should I re-paint it? But what if my hamster bites the paint and eat it.=s
I really don’t want to throw away the cage, cos it’s expensive. Hope someone can help me.

you could sand it off or you can get someone to sandblast it
and then re-paint

I have a three story cage and there is a latch on each story.My hamsters figured out how to open it and get out. (I’ve already lost my hamsters about three times each.I did find them.)

How can I keep them from opening it?Without having it pressed up against a wall.

Also, the are chewing on the bars and the paint is getting in their mouths and coming off the bars.How can I stop that, too? I have things to chew in their cage.

We have a Habittrail cage for our Teddy Bear Hamster, but we also have a cat. He keeps knocking the extra attachments, (water bottle, wheel) off the cage, and once, the whole thing off the shelf (where we thought he would be safe!). We tried:
Putting the cage in a closet.
Putting it higher
Locking the bedroom door!
I think it would be a good idea to put the cage in a larger cage. Do you have any suggestions on what type of cage, how it would effect the hamster, or any better ideas?

breeding a hamster. A hamster that has been bred will most likely be from a petshop. That hamster you bought from the petshop (if bred) its babies will most likely go to the petshop, so you are kind of helping the petshop out.

If I were to have the know-how necessary to store energy produced by a hamster wheel while the hamster/mouse is running in it, how much energy could be stored? What kind of things could I use that energy for?

Let’s assume the hamster runs for 2 hours a day.

Follow up question, what about a human on an exercise bike?

The hamster has a mass of 100 grams. The wheel has a radius of 10 cm ( thats a very big hamster wheel ). The maximum torque the hamster can generate is m.g.r = 0.1 . 10 . 0.1 = 0.1 Nm

If it can run at 1 rev per second…. rather quick ( one rev per 3 secs is more likely )
Thats 7200 revs in two hours

Work done = torque . angular distance moved = 0.1 . 2 . ? . 7200 = 4500 Joules

Which is power production at 0.63 watts.

If your phone is about 10 watts ( I’m guessing here – I don’t have a cell phone ) then your two hours of hamster running ( assuming 100% efficiency ) would power your phone for 7 and a half minutes.

Hmmmmm…..lots of hamsters needed.

I’m going to bed.. you can work out the human one – just more of the same with different numbers.

I have a pet hamster that is pregnant and i want to sell the babies to a pet store. What pet store will buy them? The pet shop closest to me is petco so will petco buy it?
I want to sell or give my hamsters for free to a pet shop. I live near petco so i mostly want to know if petco will take them

they may not buy them but they’ll probably take them for free, arent hamsters super cheap?
