i have two female russian dwarf hamsters and i am thinking about breeding them(most likely lending them out to a friend with a male hamster). i have some questions such as, what other kind of hamsters can they be bred with, and what are the pros and cons.

Just remember, you are going to have at least 10 hamsters after words. Dwarf hamsters are the hardest of them all, and you need to be VERY careful. Make you have a bunch of males, because they can kill each other.

A Minute with Tofu the Dwarf Hamster

Little Tofu eating a piece of sweet potato a few months ago. She is REALLY old now and has to be bathed and fed because she can’t move =( Ideally, hamsters should never be wet, but in this case, we have to keep her clean, so we ‘bath’ her with a damp paper towel, and dry her ASAP. Her fur has also come out in patches. She is almost 2 years old now~ I miss her furry active days

so my dwarf hamster had babies, they are one week old today. The cage is starting to smell. So i wouldl ike to clean it out but i have to take all of the hamsters out of the cage to do so. I dont want to harm them how long should i wait to clean the cage out?

can you leave them IN the cage a sort of clean around them….that might be easier than disturbing them this early.

Try getting a ball and letting her run around in that for a while to get used to the angle, then she may do it on her own.

Title: Interesting Facts About Siberian Dwarf Hamsters

Siberian dwarf hamste have 28 chromosomes which made them interesting subjects for scientists who learned information about diabetes from studying them. They are short and their body is about 4 inches in length. They normally have gray backs, white belly with a dark line which separates the gray and white fur. An interesting feature of this hamster is their special cheek pouches which they use to collect and transport food. They develop this habit because in the wild they have to run for miles when looking for food. In addition, they also use their cheek pouches as flotation devices when they swim.

The Siberian dwarf hamster’s relationship to the sun has been a curiosity among scientists and hamster lovers since its discovery. Their coats change in color because of the sun.  The changes in the color of the hamster’s coat depend son how much sunlight it receives. For example, in winter, the hamster’s coat turns white since it is exposed to the sun for a few hours only. Aside from what has been mentioned above, their exposure to the sun also affects their immune system which become stronger when they are less exposed to sunlight. In addition, when males mature, they expose themselves to the sun more which results into an enhanced reproductive development. Because of this interesting relationship between Siberian hamsters and the sun, many hamster owners experiment with their hamsters to see if they can come up with unique colors.

These hamsters are generally friendly and sociable. However, male Siberian dwarf hamsters tend to fight unless they are raised together. They are also the most sluggish and slow among hamsters. Moreover, they do not exert much effort into scent marking and they become less active in the evening. They are among the favorite pets because they are easy to breed and raise.

i have 2 happy male chinese dwarf hamsters. however, if i bought a chinchilla; will it be okay to keep it in the same cage as my hamsters?

No, not a good idea at all. Keep the chinchilla in a separate cage.
