I got some square tissue boxes, made holes in the side and connected them together with toilet roll tubes.. it made him a nice little tunnel/maze.

Chinchillas need plenty of exercise.  One of the best ways to do this is to put a wheel in its cage.  There are a few things you need to consider when buying chinchilla wheels.  This article will give you a few tips.

Size

One of the first things you need to consider when buying one of these wheels is its size.  Most people are familiar with the exercise wheels used for hamsters.  However, these aren’t suitable for use with chinchillas as they’re too small.  You need one that’s at least 14 inches in diameter.  Larger ones are better.  This will allow the chin to stretch out fully which reduces stress on the spine.

Material

You will also need to think about the type of material chinchilla wheels are made from.  You’ll have to decide between metal and plastic.  It’s best to choose a metal design.  As mentioned earlier, an ideal wheel will be relatively large.  With its increased size and weight, a plastic wheel will usually be less durable.  Also, chins love to chew on plastic, so they’ll quickly damage a wheel made from it.

Construction

One of the most important considerations is the wheel’s construction.  There should be no gaps in the area that the chinchilla runs on.  Its feet or tail may get caught in one of the gaps and cause a lot of damage.  Some chins have had to have their legs amputated for this very reason.  Therefore, make sure that the area where the chin runs is solid.

Interest

Some chinchilla wheels are quite expensive.  You’d probably be upset if you spent your money on one and your chin didn’t like it.  However, all of them don’t show immediate interest in exercise wheels.  Once he gets used to it, he may play with it everyday.  Just give him a few days to get used to his new surrounding.

It actually easyier to but one but to make one you need some sticks and carboard and other stuff.

1, Make a large cardboard tube aout 7 inches in diametre and 2-3 inches thick.

2. Attach two crosses made of the sticks to each side. And add a little stick coming out of the center of the cross.

3. On the little outstick attach a stand to hold it up.

4. Stick the hamster in thorugh the crosses and let it run!

Note: you may have to re-enforce the wheel with some metal or somethign because the hamster might snap the cardboard.
